Written 7-11-2011
Graduated in 2010 with a Masters in Social Work, in the Community Practice Track.
Community Involvement/Activities?
Was a member of:
- Shades of Brown and Allies (SOBA)
- Multicultural Social Justice (MSJ).
- Phi Alpha Honor Society
Was an active student supporter of DU Sodexho workers' efforts to gain employee rights.
Graduate intern at Project WISE, a non-profit organization working with low-income and welfare recipient women, and I help them receive the resources and support they need to live self-sustainable lives.
Experience at DU?
My experience at DU was a rewarding challenge. I was able to cultivate professional development through my graduate studies and community involvement. The support and encouragement from my professors and classmates was a vital component to my success.
What the Barnett Scholarship has meant to you?
Receiving the Barnett Scholarship supported my financial situation to continue attending DU. It's been a privilege receiving the award, and knowing that community members care about the success of students such as myself.
Plans for the Future?
I plan to work internationally on women's issues, particularly around health, education, economic development, and human security risk factors. My goal is to continue to work for social justice through anti-oppressive practices, and I hope to be able to create systemic change through policy, research, and educational awareness.
